EAST LANSING – Of greater interest than the top four teams in Tuesday night’s newest College Football Playoff poll was the severity of Michigan State’s fall in the rankings following its upset loss last weekend at Nebraska.Mark Dantonio still thinks the Spartans can achieve all of their goals. It was a bad loss against the lowly Cornhuskers. But it’s still just a single loss. A rare blemish for a team that’s now lost only four games in its last 36.But the Spartans fell six spots to 13th in the second playoff rankings. That’s a cataclysmic drop for their playoff chances.

The loss on Saturday night in Lincoln, Nebraska pretty much ruined the Spartans chances at a playoff spot. Losing to a team with a winning record whose contending for a bowl berth would be a little more easy to take, but losing to a team with 3-6 record is inexcusable. This was the thought of the pollsters in dropping the Spartans out of the top ten. A lot has to happen now for the Spartans to get into the playoff spot for the national championship. First and foremost, they need to run the table to end the season; and second, they are going to need some help from other teams along the way. In my opinion, I don’t see it happening.
