How Are They Doing It?

Who would have thought that the Detroit Lions after 10 games would be sitting at the top of the NFC North Division tied with the Minnesota Vikings at 6-4. The Lions have been in all of their games this season, with all being decided by seven points or less. They have been behind in the fourth quarter of all their games and QB Matthew Stafford has become the new NFL’s version of Captain Comeback. In addition the defense has come up with some big plays down the stretch to preserve victories.

They are doing this with a running game that is virtually non-existent. In Sunday’s game with Jacksonville, the Lions managed fourteen yards rushing. The defense has less than stellar statistics also. They rank near bottom in all defensive categories. I guess the saying “sometimes it’s better to lucky than good” comes into play here. There’s still a lot of football left to be played against some good teams (Minnesota at home and the Cowboys and Giants on the road). Are we talking playoffs yet? With disaster of the Spartan football team this year, attention now goes to the basketball team and the upcoming season. This will be an interesting team with the losses of Denzel Valentine, Bryn Forbes and Matt Costello to graduation, but will have the services of four highly touted freshmen on the roster.

Michigan State Football: Spartans leadership has failed | isportsweb

This year has been a disaster to say the least regarding Spartan football.  The performance of this year’s teams reminds me of the John L. Smith years.

Michigan State has lost five straight games for the first time since 1991, and a failure of leadership is a big reason why.

This is not 2015!!

The way this season is unfolding, it is very apparent that this is not the way the Michigan State football team and its fans thought it would be. After five games and their record is 2-3 with two conference losses, one of them to Indiana and two beat downs at home! Are you kidding me?  The season hinges on a victory for the Spartans on homecoming weekend. A turnaround is needed starting Saturday to salvage the season. Looking at the remaining schedule, the best this team could get to is 7-5.  This is a big drop from last years’ championship season!
