Nothing Ever Changes

Growing up in Michigan being a Detroit Lion fan can be disheartening to say the least. Better yet, it is a case of futility. I used to think the reasons for this franchise not winning was William Clay Ford and a lot of other agreed with that thinking. The thought was that as long as Ford owned the team, the Lions would never win. It’s unfortunate because they have had some very good players over the years that I followed them (Joe Schmidt, Dick “Night Train” Lane, Lem Barney, Charlie Sanders, Alex Karras, Mel Farr, Herman Moore, Greg Landry,Barry Sanders) just to name a few. They have had some good teams, teams good enough to contend for a Super Bowl, but for some reason they have always fallen short.  This team is the only team (post merger of the AFL & NFL) that has not participated in a Super Bowl. The Cleveland Browns haven’t participated either, but, they are basically an expansion team. The original Cleveland franchise became the Baltimore Ravens.

I thought along with other long time Detroit fans, that this team had the makings to contend for the Super Bowl, but we were wrong again. I’m beginning to believe this team is cursed in the same way the Chicago Cubs are. If it weren’t for bad luck, they would have no luck at all. So, I guess it’s back to the drawing board as far as building a team to contend. NOTHING EVER CHANGES!!!!
